: The study proposal was approved by the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) and in Nepal by the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) Institutional Review Committee and Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC). Prior to funding, the proposal was reviewed by the Special Programme for Tropical Diseases Research and Training (TDR) at the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva, Switzerland. Prior permission was obtained from household head of residences for the collection of sand flies.
