Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical approval for this study was obtained from Makerere University School of Public Health Higher Degrees, Research and Ethics committee and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology. Permission to conduct the study was also obtained from district and facility managers. Participants were anonymous and provided informed written consents that were detached from the questionnaire. Participants received 5,000 Uganda shillings (US$ 1.5) as compensation for their time per the IRB approval. Sexually active adolescents (15-17 years) were handled as emancipated minors, with a waiver of the parental/guardian consent, based on the national research guidelines [CitationRef removed].
