: This study was approved UCT Human Research Ethics R045/2014 and 793/2022. Prior to enrollment or screening, all participants received an informed consent outlining the research aims, target population, eligibility criteria and participant rights and confidentiality, in a language of their choice. Risk such as adverse event from venesection or direct-acting antiviral therapy was explained to participants, and voluntary participation was emphasized. Participants were compensated for their time and travel. All our research data and materials were handled and stored in such a way that it adheres to the South Africa’s regulations and requirements.
