: This protocol describes three stages: (1) a development stage, in which a multi-disciplinary steering group will develop a prototype, (2) a stage of mixed-methods alpha testing of the decision aid prototype with patients and clinicians experienced in acute Achilles tendon ruptures, and (3) a stage of field testing the revised decision aid prototype in usual a clinical care environment. The Ottawa Health Science Network Research Ethics Board (OHSN-REB) approved the experimental protocol and granted approval for stages (1) and (2) of this study (Protocol #20210048-01H). Approval has not yet been sought for stage (3). In accordance with the protocol approved by the OHSN-REB, verbal or written consent will be obtained from all study participants. All methods have been and will be carried out in accordance with Canada’s Tri-Council Policy Statement on Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2), Integrated Addendum to ICH E6 (R1): Guideline for Good Clinical Practice E6 (R2), and the provisions of the Ontario Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA 2004) and its applicable regulations.
