Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study was approved by Makerere University School of Public Higher Degree Research and Ethics Committee (HDREC), Reference Number: IRB00005876. Permission was obtained from the district health officer before commencement of the study. Informed assent was obtained from caretakers of the preschool-age children prior to the study. Assent form were distributed to the caretakers of the preschool-age children after indicating to them that the information collected was for planning health interventions and that their participation was completely voluntary and that they were freed to withdraw participation at any time. Those who assented signed and return forms to the research assistants. Caretakers were also informed on the procedure for collecting stool sample, aims, objectives and benefits of the study. Individuals with A. lumbricoides, Ancylostoma spp (Hookworm), T. trichiura or other types of intestinal helminths infections were referred to the nearest health facility for treatment. All caretakers with inadequate knowledge about STH transmission, prevention and de-worming program, were given a health education message by the research assistants at the end of the interview.
