: The procedures for sampling 1 mm ear-notch tissue for DNA isolation from goats in this study do not require ethics approval according to current EU directive on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes (DIRECTIVE 2010/63/EU). We obtained written consent of the farmers to participate in the study to provide ear-notch samples for DNA analyses. Ear notching was done with Allflex Tissue Sampling Tags where one takes an ear punch while tagging the animal. The later is required by the European Regulation (EC) No 21/2004 establishing a system for the identification and registration of ovine and caprine animals.
