: The animals were obtained from the experimental pig unit of the Leibniz Institute for Farm Animal Biology, Dummerstorf, Germany and were not part of an animal experiment. Animal husbandry and slaughter followed the guidelines set by the Animal Care Committee the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, based on the German Law of Animal Protection. Piglets were killed at the FBN slaughterhouse using exsanguination after captive-bolt pistol (5 days of age) or electro stunning (20 days of age). The slaughterhouse is approved by the European Union and the German quality management system QS (MV21212). The isolation of the satellite cells from the dissected porcine muscles, the establishment of the two cell pools used in the presented study were previously described by Metzger et al.
